Prague Astronomical Clock

Place46-Score: 110.2 - (4.7★ - 97,5K reviews)

Perched majestically on the southern wall of the Old Town Hall in Prague, the Prague Astronomical Clock (Prager Rathausuhr) is a true marvel of medieval engineering and artistry. Erected in 1410, it is the third-oldest astronomical clock in the world and the oldest one still operating. Located at Staroměstské nám. 1, 110 00 Josefov, this iconic landmark draws millions of visitors annually to witness its hourly spectacle.

Every hour, between 9 AM and 11 PM, the clock comes alive. The 'Walk of the Apostles' features twelve figures of the Apostles parading past the windows above the clock face, accompanied by other moving sculptures like the Grim Reaper striking time. The clock itself comprises three main components: the astronomical dial, representing the position of the Sun and Moon in the sky and displaying various astronomical details; the 'Walk of the Apostles' (the hourly show); and a calendar dial with medallions representing the months.

A visit to the Prague Astronomical Clock is more than just telling time; it's a journey back into history, offering a glimpse into medieval science and craftsmanship. Its intricate design and captivating performance make it a centerpiece of the vibrant Old Town Square, surrounded by other historical treasures like the Church of Our Lady before Týn and St. Nicholas Church. Don't miss this unforgettable experience during your visit to Prague.
